Terms of use

Who we are and accepting these terms
BoardGamesReviewed is operated by [OPERATOR LEGAL NAME], [OPERATOR ADDRESS]. By using the site, creating an account or submitting a suggestion you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use those features. Browsing needs no account. How we handle personal data is described in the privacy policy.
Accounts
- One person, one account. Don't create accounts for others or share yours.
- You must confirm your email address. Accounts that aren't confirmed within 7 days are deleted automatically.
- Keep your password secret; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
- We can suspend an account that breaks these terms. A suspended account can't log in.
- You can delete your account yourself at any time (see “Deleting your account” below).
Nicknames
Your nickname is 3 to 20 characters: letters, numbers, underscores and hyphens only. Some names are reserved (for example names that look like staff or system names), and you may not choose a nickname that impersonates someone else or is offensive. You can change your nickname once every 30 days (changing only the capitalization is always allowed); your old nickname becomes available to others immediately. We may change a nickname that breaks these rules.
Ratings
Ratings are scores only, with no free text: an overall score, optional scores for fun, theme, replayability and components, an optional complexity (weight) score, and optional “best with N players” votes. You can leave one rating per game, and change or remove it later. Only game averages and your own rating are shown; an individual person's rating is never shown to others. Please rate honestly, only for games you have played, and don't try to manipulate scores (for example with multiple accounts or coordinated rating). Our moderators may remove ratings and suspend accounts that do.
Public profile and shared favorites
A public profile (your nickname, join date and number of games rated) is off by default and only appears if you switch it on. You can share your favorites list through a link: anyone who has the link can see it, it shows your nickname only if you choose, and you can revoke the link at any time.
Release reminders and digests
Release reminders and the digest email are opt-in and off by default. If you send info suggestions, we also email you a daily summary of what editors decided; that email is on by default and can be switched off on your account page. Every one of these emails contains an unsubscribe link, and mail programs that support it offer one-click unsubscribe. We still send the emails an account needs to work (confirmation, password reset, email-change notices).
Suggesting games
The suggestion form lets you propose a game with facts you enter by hand (name, year, players, playtime and so on) and links. Editors check every suggestion by hand before anything is published, and may edit, use in part, or reject it, without having to explain why. Only submit facts you know yourself or links to pages you did not copy from. Do not paste descriptions, images or other material copied from elsewhere, and do not submit data taken from BoardGameGeek. By submitting text such as a tagline or a note you give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to use, edit and publish it on the site. Whatever an editor accepts becomes ordinary site content about that game.
Suggesting corrections and info
Besides new games, you can suggest a correction or addition to a game, person or publisher page: facts such as players, playtime, release date and links, a tagline or description, a biography, and lists such as publishers, mechanics, categories, awards and credits. A correction needs a source link. Editors check each change by hand and may apply it, edit it, or reject it with a reason that you can read on your account page. Write descriptions and biographies in your own words, and do not copy them from BoardGameGeek, publisher or shop sites, Wikipedia or anywhere else. Rejected suggestions are deleted after 180 days. If an editor uses your suggestion, you can ask to be credited by nickname under “Info contributed by”; this is optional, off by default, and you can change it at any time.
By submitting a correction, description, biography, note or any other text you give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to use, edit and publish it on the site, with or without credit as you chose. You confirm that you wrote it yourself or may share it.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from your account page. This permanently erases your email, nickname, password, sessions, favorites, shared list and notification history. Your ratings are kept but anonymized: they are no longer linked to you. Suggestions of yours that are still waiting for review are deleted, as are rejected info suggestions. Suggestions that were already decided are kept only as a record of the game's name and year; the note, details and links you submitted are removed, but anything an editor approved and published stays on the game page as site content. Any public “Info contributed by” credit with your nickname disappears with your account.
Images and rights holders
Cover images on game pages are linked from official sources (the website of the game or its publisher) rather than copied to our servers, and belong to their owners. Game names, logos and artwork are trademarks or copyrights of their respective owners and are shown to identify the games. If you hold rights to an image or other content on the site and want it removed, write to [CONTACT EMAIL] with the page address and what you want removed; we will review the request promptly.
Game data
Game information is provided as is, may contain mistakes or be out of date, and is maintained by a small team and by visitors' suggestions. We make no promise that it is complete or accurate. Part of our game data comes from Wikidata, which is available under the CC0 public-domain dedication; we credit Wikidata as a source on the About page.
Changes
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top of this page when we do, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW / JURISDICTION]. [CONSUMER-RIGHTS AND COURT WORDING TO BE ADDED.]
